Synopsis
Tiny World Season 1 is a macro nature documentary that premiered globally on Apple TV+ on October 2, 2020. Co-directed by Tom Hugh-Jones and Nathan Small, the series consists of 6 episodes (approximately 30 minutes each) and is narrated by Paul Rudd. Produced by Plimsoll Productions, it stands as a cornerstone of the platform’s nature documentary lineup and is widely regarded as the pioneering work of the macro nature documentary genre. Filmed over three years across six continents with a crew of more than 30 cinematographers and over 150 post-production and CGI artists, the series showcases more than 200 tiny creatures — insects, spiders, amphibians, reptiles, and small mammals — whose extraordinary survival strategies are invisible to the naked eye. The six episodes each focus on a different habitat type: “Forest,” “Outback,” “Jungle,” “Island,” “Reef,” and “Desert.” Among its iconic scenes: dwarf cheetah cubs in Tanzania, pitcher plant traps in Borneo, micro geckos in the Galápagos, pocket-sized owls in Patagonia, chameleon hatchlings in Madagascar, and snow hares on the Arctic tundra, among dozens of other rare species. Shot with custom macro lenses, ultra slow-motion photography (up to 1000 fps), enhanced with CGI restoration and scientifically rigorous species behavior, and scored by Tom Mayall, the series debuted at #1 on Apple TV+’s global TOP 10 and reached 12 million households within its first four weeks. It holds an IMDb rating of 9.0 (as of 2024) and a Douban rating of 9.6 (based on 6,393 reviews, as of 2024). Praised by The Guardian, The New York Times, and National Geographic as one of the best nature documentaries of 2020, Tiny World is a visual masterpiece suitable for all ages and one of the flagship titles in Apple TV+’s nature documentary lineup.
